Doberman Issues You Should Be Prepared For
If you think that you are not going to run into at least a handful of Doberman issues when you bring your new best friend home, think again. The doberman is an amazing and unique breed, unlike any other. These are dogs that are almost human-like with their puzzle-solving and brilliant minds however, this high level of intelligence also makes them strong-willed and easily stressed. The Doberman is not a breed for a first time dog owner or someone who is not comfortable with becoming the alpha leader. These dogs already come with a naturally dangerous instinct so if you cannot lead your dog, you will open yourself up to uncontrollable Doberman issues.
Dominance Aggression
This is not always physical or violent but Dobermans are known for their subtle ways of ignoring commands or demanding attention. Dobermans have been strategically bred to be the alpha dog so for you to gain and maintain the leadership position is quite challenging. Dogs will often deliver a correction bite to assert dominance, which is one of the biggest Doberman issues.
This is usually a sideways bite, accompanied with a growl, rather than a grab that would be used with hunting or fighting so they are not trying to harm you but it is a warning. Preventing such events is possible by knowing your dog well enough to recognize aggression in early stages and by constantly engaging in training.

Biting
Biting in Dobermans is not always aggressive with a snarl like you probably picture in your mind. These dogs like to play bite, just as they would with their pack however, Dobermans are not always fully aware just how unbelievably strong their jaws are.
Many owners allow their puppy to lick, chew and bite on them but that is only inviting Doberman issues with their dog biting as an adult as well. The easiest way to avoid potentially dangerous habits from forming is to not allow your puppy to bite from the beginning.
Destruction
Daily walks are not sufficient for Doberman Pinschers if you expect them not to be destructive. These are powerful dogs that can do a lot of damage in a short period of time. To avoid destructive Doberman issues, it is crucial that they receive an abundance of mental stimulation and physical exercise. This is a breed that needs a fenced in yard where they can run at top speed, something that you can probably not offer with your daily walk or jog.
It is also important that your Doberman has a very generous supply of toys, heavy duty ones! As a puppy, your Doberman will probably destroy these items quickly so it is important to always check for loose parts that he could swallow.
Separation Anxiety
Dobermans are bred to be a companion. In a perfect world, your dog would prefer to be by your side all day and then sleep on the floor by your bed all night. If you are the kind of person who works long hours or you have a small household where your dog will be alone a lot, this is not the breed for you.
Many behavioral Doberman issues stem from the dog being left home alone too much. A young Doberman should be kenneled until he has displayed that he is aware of household rules. Even then, a few hours at a time is only appropriate or your dog will likely act out to let you know just how unhappy he is about the situation.
Additionally, Dobermans should never be left outside when no one is home, especially if you have children in the neighborhood that could tease and taunt him.
If you are considering bringing a Doberman into your home, be sure that you are prepared for the hard work, time and dedication that they require, anything less is unfair to the dog.
